FITLER SQUARE - 19103 & 19146
Fitler Square, located just west of Rittenhouse Square, from 22nd Street to the Schuylkill River and Locust Street to South Street, is a charming community named for the beautiful park in the heart of the neighborhood. The Square was named after a late 19th century Philadelphia mayor, Edwin Henry Fitler, and boasts a collection of animal sculptures, a Victorian-era fountain that flows most of the year and is surrounded by park benches providing a wonderful place to relax, have coffee, or enjoy a good book. Year round activities include the annual Easter egg hunt, Spring Fair, Halloween party, Christmas tree lighting ceremony and Saturday farmers’ market (10-2pm) supporting our local growers for all to enjoy! The park is maintained by the Fitler Square Improvement Association whose mission is to preserve, protect and beautify Fitler Square.
Fitler Square neighborhood is home to mid 19th century to early 20th century townhomes, tree-lined and cobblestone streets, new construction homes with garages, and low/mid-rise condominiums.
Schuylkill River Park is only a few blocks away and is home to public tennis courts, dog runs, basketball court, athletic field and Schuylkill Banks Trail, a great walking/running/bike path that leads you to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Fairmount Park, Boat House Row, Manayunk and points beyond.
When walking these streets you will experience the area’s European charm… resembling a quaint village within a bustling city. As with all of Center City’s neighborhoods, Fitler Square is not without its own collection of casual dining establishments and BYOB’s for gourmet foodies: Dimitri’s at 23rd & Pine, Mama Palma’s at 23rd & Spruce, L-2 and My Thai at 22nd & South. Specialty gourmet markets, eat in or take out, such as Bacchus and Tastebuds will assist you in planning and organizing your special event. Café Lutécia is a lovely French style café serving breakfast and lunch.
And don’t forget to explore Woven Treasures, fine oriental rugs, and Bicycle Therapy, Philadelphia’s premier bicycle shop at 23rd & South Streets while you’re walking around the neighborhood.
Fitler/Rittenhouse Square children are zoned in the public school catchment area of the Albert M.
