Northern Liberties, is located north of Old City, bordered by Girard Avenue to the north from the Delaware waterfront to 6th Street providing easy access to Penn’s Landing, Center City, I-95 and Ben Franklin Bridge. A culturally rich neighborhood, Northern Liberties has evolved into a diverse mix of “old” and “new”. This community has become an alternative nightspot for the young and outgoing crowds of modern Philadelphia with its numerous eclectic bars and restaurants ranging from small neighborhood joints to larger venues. In 2009, Bart Blatstein, founder and president of Tower Investments, Inc., developed and created The Piazza at Schmidt’s (former home of Schmidt’s Brewery), an urban retreat comprised of a beautifully landscaped 80,000SF open-air plaza located on 2nd St & Germantown Avenue. This plaza catapulted this post-industrial transitional neighborhood into a pioneering community! His vision was to create a place where people could live, eat, shop, work and play within steps of one another and because of the variety of public transportation surrounding the area, enables the residents to reduce their carbon footprints. The Piazza is surrounded by: a five-story renovated industrial building converted into commercial space on the ground floor and apartments on top, a six story building connected by an enclosed catwalk to a seven story building, both with commercial space on the ground floor and apartments above, and a seven story oval shaped glass office building with a 24 hour upscale diner on the bottom floor, and a beautiful fitness facility on the third floor. The open-air plaza hosts year round events from concerts, free festivals, vendor markets, film screenings, dance performances, live broadcasts of sporting events and more. It includes a 40’ x 20’ permanent stage and an HD 40’ LED screen. Locals simply grab a chair, find a spot, and watch the games all throughout the year. Liberties Walk is a four block long, mixed-use development with a village feel that consists of 72 residential walk-up apartments, 30 first floor commercial units and 19 townhouses.

Northern Liberties is one of Philadelphia's best artist magnets, exhibiting great musical acts and featuring trend-setting art galleries. The “quintessential original artist” in this neighborhood was Edgar Allan Poe, American Author, Poet, Editor and Literary Critic, as well as the first well-known American writer to try an earn a living through writing alone. Mr. Poe’s literary influence created and defines what we enjoy in today’s literature from short stories to American romance, mystery and the macabre, detective and science fictions. Edgar Allan Poe’s literary works influence today’s popular culture in literature, music, films, and television. His home is located on the corner of 7th & Spring Garden Streets and is a National Historic Site and dedicated museum.
