QUEEN VILLAGE - 19147

Queen Village, one of Philadelphia’s oldest residential neighborhoods, was established by Swedish settlers in an area originally inhabited by native Lenni Lenapi Indians who called the area “Wiccaco” or “Pleasant Place”. Located south of Society Hill from the south side of Lombard Street to Washington Avenue/Penn’s Landing to 6th Street, Queen Village is a well-established neighborhood full of longtime residents as well as new neighbors. Beautiful Federal and Victorian townhomes and quaint side streets similar to Society Hill offer an eclectic housing supply: from “trinity” homes to apartment buildings, contemporary homes, loft style residences, and new construction. Minutes to the Italian Market and South Street corridor offering funky shops, hip restaurants and an active nightlife. Fabric Row along South Fourth Street is a home decorator's dream. Historically significant, Queen Village remains the choice for many who desire the grandeur of fine living at a price less than that of its sister neighborhood, Society Hill!

An integral part of the Queen Village community is Famous 4th Street Deli, 700 S 4th Street, a uniquely special 9o year old corner delicatessen that has continued the tradition of great Jewish delis! It has been used as the backdrop to several movies including Philadelphia (1993) and In Her Shoes (2005) as well as playing host to visiting dignitaries, presidents, governors and mayors! They pickle their own corned beef; smoke their own pastrami; and do their own baking! Come hungry! You won’t be disappointed!

Schools: Meredith Elementary School is located at 5th and Fitzwater Streets and serves grades K through 8. High school students may attend Furness Horace High School. In addition, students may apply to attend a school outside of their neighborhood through the School District of Philadelphia's Voluntary Transfer Program. Also located in Queen Village is a branch of the Settlement Music School located at 416 Queen Street that offers music and dance lessons for children and adults.
